“Apple Confirms Vision Pro is Not Eligible for Trade-in”
Too bad. I probably wouldn’t do it for this one anyway, but the ease of Apple’s trade-in (vs. selling it myself) might have been a factor in my decision to upgrade at a later time.
RIP TiVo
The TiVo really was a revolution in the way TV worked, at least for me. I was sad that it went the way it did, the company went from being truly innovative to purely a patent troll. Still, I have fond memories….
“GM Will Ditch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on All Its Cars, Not Just EVs”
I wasn’t in too much danger of buying a GM vehicle at this point, but this definitely kills even the remote chance that did exist.
Rails 8.1 is Out
This was one of the easiest Rails upgrades I’ve done yet. Also, since I’ve been posting about using AI agents, and here’s what deploying the newly updated app looked like.
“The Rubygems.org Takeover”
This post about the RubyGems situation seems to round up the various accounts I’ve read separately and corral them into a single location. I think that having RubyGems and Bundler taken over by Ruby Core makes sense for the stability of the ecosystem.
“Satellites Are Leaking the World’s Secrets: Calls, Texts, Military and Corporate Data”
Scary! Use a VPN when out and about, kids.
“Can AI Avoid the Enshittification Trap?”
You just _know_ Doctorow is right: we’ll be getting sold stuff by AI with little visibility in no time. It’s hard to see what the incentive structures are, and I have no doubt that moral clarity alone is not enough to deter the leaders of those companies from tapping that keg.
“Apple is the Exclusive New Broadcast Partner for Formula 1 in the U.S.”
I haven’t been following F1 for a while, but I will dip in and check out this coverage. They didn’t explicitly mention Vision Pro. I’m still hoping that there will be a more immersive experience for Vision Pro.
