I have been using an ultra-wide display for about a year and a half now, and while I love the real estate it provides, I do miss having a Retina Display. What I don’t miss is the 60 Hz refresh rate on Apple’s desktop displays; I’m sensitive to slow refresh rates. If one of these features ProMotion—or even just fixed 120 Hz—I’m probably going to switch. The real test will be if they have some nice new tech in their displays, but still stick to 60 Hz….
Apple is reportedly working on two new external displays.
One, codenamed J427, is the rumored second-generation Studio Display due “either at the end of this year or early next year,” writes Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the subscriber version of today’s Power On newsletter. He has written of that one before. He says another code name, J527, has popped up — Gurman speculates it’s either an alternative to J427 Apple could launch instead, or something with different specs, like a new Pro Display XDR.
