Thoughts on Technology
“In a Major Coup for Someone, Alan Dye Leaves Apple”
I agree with this entire article: I’m glad Dye—and others on the design team at Apple—are moving on, and hope that this allows a new generation to step up.
“Pick a Car, Any Car: Adventures With CarPlay”
I’m literally sitting in a rental with CarPlay right now, and we’ve been using it nonstop this week while traveling for the holiday. CarPlay is great for daily life, but it’s a lifesaver when traveling.
“X is Finally Rolling Out Chat, Its DM Replacement With Encryption and Video Calling”
Those statements are contradictory: [end-to-end encryption means that only the sender and recipient can view the plaintext messages](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End-to-end_encryption). If a man-in-the-middle—including X itself—can read it, it’s not E2EE.
“After Years of Saying No, Tesla Reportedly Adding Apple Carplay to Its Cars”
I don’t trust this report—and wouldn’t buy a Tesla in any case—but this would be quite the reversal. Maybe it would signal to others going down this path that they’re making a mistake.
“Password to Louvre’s Video Surveillance System Was ‘Louvre’, According to Employee”
It sounds like this wasn’t material to the theft, but man, how embarrassing.
“AI Isn’t Replacing Jobs. AI Spending Is”
AI spending (and AI drawing available venture capital investment) is more responsible for cutbacks than AI doing the work of those who lost their jobs. As anyone who reads this knows, I believe that AI can help developers be more productive; I don’t believe that it can do developers’ jobs.
“YouTube TV’s Disney blackout reminds users that they don’t own what they stream”
It really sucks that people who have “recorded” shows on their “DVR” have lost access to those “recordings”. It’s just another reminder that these services just aren’t as good as ones that actually put a recording on a device you own, like a TiVo.
“These GM Vehicles” Infotainment Can No Longer Download Apps”
Yet another reason to not trust GM with their commitment to do anything other than attempt to extract subscription dollars from people who buy their vehicles. They don’t care about their owners’ experience, they just want the money.
“Asus ProArt PA32QCV 6k Professional Monitor Review: Plenty of Pixels, Color, and Brightness”
It’s definitely in my head.
“Claude Code Promotion”
I’m using Claude Code on the Web, and it’s pretty neat so far. The option of having a few different sessions all working in parallel in the cloud, and being able to check in on their progress from mobile, is a nifty one. It’s worth checking out with the free credit until Nov. 18.
