The title of this article suggest that Apple and Google's fee is a "kickback"--note the negative connotation--rather than a distribution fee or similar.
"As we move to complete the acquisition with Amazon, we are shifting to the Web-based purchasing model they've successfully used with Kindle, which we expect will allow us to strike the best balance between prices, selection and customer experience," he said.
I fail to see how those three things have been positively affected at all, except "customer experience", which is now markedly worse.
Comixology cuts Apple, Google out of digital-comics kickback
Following Amazon's purchase of the digital-comics marketplace, Comixology updates its Comics apps to prevent Apple and Google from taking a cut. The move makes it harder to buy comics through the app.

Just days after acquiring Comixology, Amazon has decided to turn off in-app purchasing of comics! Comics are one of the major reasons I keep a balance on iTunes. In fact, I tend to load up my account when I see iTunes gift cards on sale just for this purpose.
I'm a fan of Amazon, but this sucks. I've been enjoying this service for a long time, and I don't want to have to go out of the app to buy comics. I'll have to re-evaluate my patronage.
Important changes to Android and iOS Apps
Android: We’ve made changes to our Google Play Android Comics App so please, update to version 3.6. In this new version we have a new comiXology in-app purchase system and a great new cart feature,...

Ainsley and I are both headed out on separate trips today, but she's definitely looking the cutest.
I'm heading out for a bike trip with friends to Utah and Colorado, so hopefully I'll have some related pics and stories to share soon. It's a good way to spend my birthday!
This is good news, but much too late, IMO. I wasn't particularly early to the XX1 bandwagon, but I was forced to outfit my bike with non-King hubs for the first time in 10 years because there was no XX1 driver for King.

"SRAM has developed an all-new braking system that handily addresses the minor deficiencies of its Avid XO and XX1-level trail brakes."
You can stop reading right there. If the reviewer thinks previous Avid brakes only had "minor deficiencies", I'm tossing the rest of the review.

"As anyone looking for decent support or even useful information over the past few months can attest, the revival of TextDrive has not been a success.
What began in mid-2012 as an exciting challenge fuelled by good intentions and lean resources quickly turned into a cleanup project with almost no resources.
It is disappointing to report that after a year and a half of uphill battles and unimagined setbacks, after several costly efforts to regroup and find another way, options to keep TextDrive growing have run out, and we will cease operations on the 14th of March, 2014.
For those who wish to know, details of what went wrong will be made available once shutdown operations have completed.
Sorry to have let you down.
Dean"
I'm not surprised to read this, but it is saddening. For what it's worth, Dean really seems to have tried to put it back together. Boo to Joyent for not keeping up their end of the bargain. I'll tell anyone who asks to stay away from them; they don't keep their commitments.
