Well, I was hoping it wouldn't happen, but Nikon has indeed announced a lackluster revision to the Nikon 1 J1 and kit lens.

While the addition of P/A/S/M controls does address one of my gripes about the 1-series, that's not a lot of improvement for a whole year. The new kit lens has a very similar focal range to the existing 10-30mm, but in a much more compact size. That's great but not enough to buy a new lens.

I'm really hoping that this is just a volley of boring shit to get out of the way before the good stuff comes out at Photokina next month. Fingers crossed for some new lenses!

tl;dr: I got a Nexus 7 the other day, and I plan to use it instead of my iPad and write my experiences here.

A bit about me and my biases: I'm an unabashed Apple user. I use a MacBook Pro as my only computer, carry an iPad with me to every meeting I go to (and I go to plenty), and use an iPhone 4 S. So yeah, it's safe to say I'm in Apple's camp.

That said, I've also been a big fan of many of Google's products. I use Gmail, and even use Google Apps for Domains for this domain and run its email through Google. My contacts sync through Google, and I use Google Voice as the number I give to most everyone.

My history with Android has been spotty. I've owned two Android phones in hopes of switching, and went back both times. The second time, I admitted that iOS is too good, and I'm not going to try switching again until perhaps much later.

My day job is managing developers, including teams who develop mobile apps for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry. (We cater to a lot of large enterprises, and they still have BlackBerrys in droves.) I've been contemplating getting an Android phone as a second device, just so I can keep up with the latest and really know Android. When the Nexus 7 was announced, I decided that would be my device, and so I bought one.

I've been carrying the Nexus 7 in lieu of my iPad for 3 days now, and keeping notes. This is a hard thing for me to do, because I really have made the iPad a part of my daily life. That means the Nexus 7 has a lot to live up to, but I'm looking forward to how well it meets that challenge. I hope you'll find my impressions interesting enough to follow.

I just got a Nexus 7, and it's my first Android device since Gingerbread. I'll write more impressions later, but I wanted to post a quick note for someone else Googling this like I was, which didn't turn up an obvious answer to the question: "Where do downloads go on the Nexus 7?" Note that this answer is probably relevant to any device running Jelly Bean, perhaps earlier.

Answer: On the "All Apps" screen (tap the circle icon with 6 squares in it on the main screen), theres a "Downloads" app that shows downloaded files from Android's version of Chrome.
