What an unbelievably sad story. I vacillate between sadness at the outcome and frustration at the fact that it was completely avoidable. I can't imagine what it's like to be that family, but it's inconceivable to me that one wouldn't question one's beliefs in the face of this ultimate of losses. I mean, when your kid is the first one in a decade who dies of a disease that was until very recently considered eradicated in the US, how can you not reconsider your belief that the vaccines are worse than the diseases they prevent?
