Dan Brooks, writing at The Atlantic:
"...oneshotted, a term that means, roughly, to be destroyed and subsequently remade by a single experience."
What an interesting, weird article. "Oneshotted" is a term that, as one who enjoys first-person shooter games, is familiar. In this context, it seems as though its use has almost been redefined to be more like "respawn" would be used in those games: to represent being recreated, healthy and whole, and ready to take another shot at success. It's not a perfect parallel, but that's not really the point: people on X have been using a gamer term to describe a pretty complicated concept. I'm not on X these days, so this article, surreal as it is, was my first exposure to it.
Why Is Everyone Talking About Getting ‘Oneshotted’?
A slang term for the extremely online also serves as a weird mirror of the internet experience.
