"Fantastic Four and X-Men: The Last Stand screenwriter Simon Kinberg has been tapped to direct the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie for 20th Century Fox."

So much is wrong in just that sentence. Fantastic Four and "X-Men: The Last Stand" were not good movies. Now that guy gets to direct the best X-Men story of all time? Arrrgh! 20th Century Fox sucks; I wish Marvel could get the rights away from them.

"Microsoft Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro review"

I spent some time with the Surface Laptop at the local Microsoft Store about a month ago and came away really impressed. This is the first Windows laptop that I actually think gives Apple a run for its money. Compared to the MacBook Air, this is the clear winner, except that it runs the wrong OS. If it ran MacOS, I'd probably have ordered one on impulse right then.

"‘The Mummy’ Stays Asleep at the Box Office"

NYT:

"Whatever the reasons — some analysts also pointed to the continued strength of “Wonder Woman,” which remained No. 1 in its second weekend, collecting about $57.2 million — “The Mummy” arrived to just $32.2 million in North American ticket sales. That was a disappointing start for a film that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make and market and was supposed to stir excitement for Universal’s coming cavalcade of monster-movie remakes."

I'm happy to read this, actually, and it has little to do with Tom Cruise. Firstly, go Wonder Woman! Secondly, I have no desire to see Universal's plan for an interconnected, Marvel-like universe of monster movies succeed. Merely plopping a leading man in front of a poorly thought-out and (apparently) poorly-executed action movie shouldn't lead to a multi-movie "universe".

I have a better idea with regard to pointing to FB posts. Since they don't allow outgoing links from blog posts, then the new rule is no links going into FB. Instead, just copy the text from FB and paste it into the open web where it can be linked to. Rescue ideas from Facebook lockin. ... Whatever justification you have for using FB for blogging, there is no justification for FB not letting you use the most basic feature of the web.

My problem with this is that FB posts aren't posted on the open web, and people don't equate posting to FB and "using FB for blogging". People who post on FB post there to share with people whom they've chosen to allow to see their posts, sometimes with very specific privacy settings. Going around those choices without permission seems to be a bigger problem than the fact that people are posting to a walled garden instead of the open web.
